Health insurance policies provide coverage when at home, but not always when traveling. Most US health plans, including Medicaid and Medicare, do not provide overseas coverage. Medical care abroad is often available only at private medical facilities and may be expensive. In places where good-quality medical care is not easily available, travelers may need to be evacuated in case of accident or illness.
If your client is visiting another part of the US or going out of the country, it is important they are properly insured when away from home with travel insurance. This is intended to cover medical expenses, theft or other losses that happen while traveling. Some countries now require proof of adequate health insurance as a condition for entry. Travel insurance can be arranged when booking a trip to cover exactly its duration, but frequent travelers might find it is better to buy an annual plan.
